Jong Ho Lee

PhD Student

Hello World!

I'm a Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) researcher, where I currently study as a 2nd-year PhD student in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD). I'm fortunate to be advised by Dr. Eun Kyoung Choe, and I'm a member of UMD's Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory.

I study how computing technology can empower people in achieving their personal goals, and finding ways to make technology more accessible. Traditional computing systems, especially ubiquitous technology, is often inaccessible to people with disabilities. To address this, I examine how multimodal interfaces, such as combining speech and touch input, can be leveraged to improve accessibility.

When seeking answers to interesting questions, I employ a mixed-methods approach where I conduct qualitative studies such as interviews in conjunction with statistical methods. I also build prototypes to test out new ideas.

I completed my M.S. in Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine, and B.S., in Computer Science and Engineering at Chung-Ang University, Seoul, South Korea.

Outside of work, I enjoy running, traveling, and music. I also like making noise with my guitars (much to my roommate's chagrin), collecting various figurines and plushies, and overthinking the meaning of video games.
